The Fire Works–Sun and Smoke

Before I could go out to the areas impacted by big the 2003 Cedar Fire, I spent some time up on the roof, looking at the sun through layers of smoke created by a fire that got within three miles of the house.

Later that week I started a small series of more conventional landscapes of the fire and its aftermath. But these images staring at the sun took on a life of their own in simple, minimalist composites. And some of the photos became raw material of slow-motion videos fading through various states of the smoke during those days of the fire.

Prints are generally in larger sizes, either laminated to acrylic or gloss prints on aluminum panels.
